About This Story
Your child and their toy tumble into the snow globe on the shelf -- and every jump sets off a blizzard. They throw snowballs, stomp through deep drifts, sled down the little hill and roll a snowball as big as they are into their very own snow friend. Then the globe goes still, the snow begins to fall slow and soft, and your child lies down in it. One big flake lands on the toes, then the knees, then the tummy, then the eyelashes -- and each part of your child goes still with it, in the book and in bed. On the last page the globe sits quiet on the shelf -- and inside, their tiny snow friend has turned to face the bed, keeping watch.
The moment it lands
First your child jumps, throws, stomps and sleds through a blizzard inside the snow globe -- standing up, beside the bed, as wild as they like. Then the globe goes still, and the snow starts to fall slow and soft. Your child lies down in it, and lies down in bed. A flake lands on their toes, their knees, their tummy, their eyelashes, and each part goes heavy and still. On the last page the globe sits quiet on the shelf -- and inside, the snow friend they built has turned to face the bed, keeping watch.
Why it stays on the nightstand
Two books in one, and the switch is built in. The first half is played standing up -- jump, throw, stomp -- then sitting, then pushing, to spend the last of the evening's energy. When the snow in the globe starts to settle, your child lies down in it, and lies down in bed. From there, one snowflake lands on one part of the body per page, toes to eyelashes: a full-body relaxation your child never notices is a relaxation exercise.
What it quietly teaches
Self-Awareness: Noticing each part of the body in turn and feeling it go heavy and still -- the beginning of body awareness
