About This Story
The hardest ten seconds of the day happen at a door. This book does not hurry past them. It gives your child the whole day as a chain they can count on their fingers — snack, blocks, outside, story, nap, songs, shoes — and at the end of every single link, the same four words: and then, the door, and then YOU. A kiss goes in the pocket on the second page and is still there on the last one. For toddlers who need something they can actually hold onto, because "later" is not something a two-year-old can hold.
The moment it lands
Nobody tells your child they are fine. The grown-up kneels all the way down, says the true thing, and presses a kiss into their palm — and every page ends the same way: "One more thing, and then we are through — and then the door. And then: YOU!" By the third page your child is saying it with you. Then, halfway through the day, a new child arrives at the door crying exactly the way your child was crying on page one — and your child gives the kiss away. Nobody sees it. Nobody praises it.
