About This Story

Pajamas on, lights low -- and your pet gets the zoomies. So does your child. The zoomies are so big they race right out into a moonlit meadow: leaping the creek, chasing tails round the big tree, flopping flat together at the top of the hill. Then your child asks the one question that changes the night: how do YOU get sleepy? And your pet shows them. The big front stretch. The back-leg stretch. The slow shake. The turn-around (or the knead), the flop, the big sigh, the slow blink that means I love you. Your child copies every step in bed as you read -- and at the end whispers your pet a goodnight -- and gets one back, in the only language a pet has. Starring your real pet, from your photo.

The moment it lands

Your pet gets the bedtime zoomies -- and so does your child. They race out into a moonlit meadow, leap the creek, chase their tails and flop flat together at the top of the hill. Then your child asks: how do YOU get sleepy? And your pet shows them, step by step -- the big stretch, the slow shake, the turn-around, the flop, the sigh, the slow blink that means I love you. Your child copies every one in bed as you read, and the last page shows the two of them asleep, curled in exactly the same shape.

Why it stays on the nightstand

Every pet already knows how to fall asleep, and children will copy an animal they love far more happily than an instruction. Your child runs the zoomies with your real pet, then copies its actual wind-down ritual step by step: stretch front, stretch back, slow shake, turn around, flop, sigh, slow blink. It adapts to your animal -- a cat kneads and purrs where a dog circles and sighs. Your child stays the hero: they ask the question, they copy every step, and at the end they teach your pet a goodnight whisper.

What it quietly teaches
